Joey Whippoorwill

I’m very pleased to introduce Joey Whippoorwill.
Joey is my first center-seam, no gusset, teddy.
I’ve been playing around with this pattern for a while now. My mind’s eye design wasn’t transferring to paper, or fur, with stealth speed. More like tortoise speed. But after much trial and error I finally came up with a pattern I like. Not to say I won’t be tweaking it a little, now and again.

Joey is 8 inches tall when standing. He has a cute little pearl cotton nose, old shoe button eyes, and is 5-way cotter-pin jointed . He’s made from a very soft faux fur and has leather suede foot pads.

Joey is organizing a softball game, at present. They’re choosing up teams. It sounds a bit girls team, boys team. Not sure how that’ll work out. But the girls are sounding very confident, so we’ll see.
Someone just discovered my wooden spoons make great bats.
I wonder where they’re planning on playing.
Maybe I should go find out.

I hope you’re having a great week
and a wonderful summer!
  Hugs,
Laura

I recently found another bear artist while I was on my flickr account. She sells hers on Ebay, but I have never heard you mention if you sell your bears or just collect them? What happens after "birth"? Your bears are so darling, I can't imagine people not wanting to own one (or like... all of them!)

(My cat is sitting with me as I am writing and asking why you've never made a cat before? He said that he's more than willing to model for you, being that he's so devastatingly handsome... he's not exactly known for his modesty, eh?)

If I can ever part with them I'll try selling. Well, I did sell one, and it nearly broke my heart. A cat, huh? Maybe..

Dear Laura,

Joey is quite a sweetie pie. I think we say that with each new bear (o: They are just so full of character. And their names always fit their little faces.

Oh no, there go the wooden spoons. It's amazing with those little ones, they see something they want - they take it. But who can resist a little teddy bear?

Oooh, this new pattern is so cute!!!

and I totally understand not wanting to sell them... I was forced to get over it by my family demanding bears for Christmas... but still... every time I make a bear, I just want to keep him or her!!!

What a sweet weensy doll face! How on earth can you stand to part with them. All that tiny detailed work...not to mention dreaming them up!

I just discovered your teddy bears and have to say they are very cute. Joey Whippoorwill has to be my favourite though. You know he comes alive at night, don't you? My dolls always did when I was a little girl and went to sleep at night!

If you ever make Joey a brother and decide to sell your bears, could I be top of the list?!
